Private tour of the Oltrarno district
Authentic Florence off the beaten path – hidden gems & local experiences
Service Description
What Florence hides on the other side of the Arno · 2.5h · fully outdoors · no entrance fees On the other side of the Arno, Florence breathes differently. This guided walking tour of the Oltrarno takes you away from long lines and crowded museums, into an authentic Florence that most tourists never find: cobbled streets and lively squares where locals still go about their daily lives. We begin in Piazza del Carmine, in front of Santa Maria del Carmine, the church that houses the Brancacci Chapel, considered the birthplace of Renaissance painting. We then cross Piazza Santo Spirito, the true living room of the neighborhood, before heading to Santa Trinità Bridge, one of the most beautiful bridges in Florence. Along Via Maggio, you’ll discover the palace of Bianca Cappello, the Medici’s mistress whose life and death remain shrouded in mystery. In front of Pitti Palace, you’ll admire its impressive 205-meter-long Renaissance façade. At Santa Felicita, you’ll see the grated window from which the Medici attended mass without mingling with the public—the Vasari Corridor literally passes above the church. We then climb up Costa San Giorgio, walk along the medieval walls to Porta San Miniato, and finally reach the esplanade of San Miniato al Monte: home to one of the finest Romanesque façades in Italy and the most peaceful panoramic view over Florence’s rooftops. 2.5 hours Fully outdoors, no entrance fees
